Sometimes, life has its way of directing us towards our passions, even when we least expect it. I’m one of those fortunate souls who’ve found their calling in the things they genuinely adore: brewing up ideas.
My early years provided an interesting twist. I was educated at a bicultural school, immersing me in both Spanish and English. And while English words and grammar seeped into my brain effortlessly, my tongue often refused to cooperate. I understood everything, yet hesitated to speak or write. Today, it’s a language I embrace daily – funny how life changes.
Acknowledging my reluctance, my teacher had a unique proposition for my parents: immerse me in English even more. Soon, my world was filled with English cartoons and films, all thanks to an exclusive subscription to a slew of American TV channels. Little did I know, this choice would pivotally shape my future.
Growing up, I’ve always been inquisitive, often contemplating how things could be enhanced or presented differently. My Saturday mornings were occupied by NBC’s cartoon marathons, but it wasn’t just the cartoons that intrigued me. The commercials, starkly different from what I had seen in Mexico, captivated me. They had this zest, this flair. One, in particular, remains etched in my memory: a Pizza Hut ad featuring a slice of pizza taken by a UFO, only to return with a cheesy crust. The innovation of that commercial left me in awe.
That was my «eureka» moment. I realized I wanted to craft tales and concepts as compelling as that. Eventually, my journey led me to the world of advertising. Since then, each project has been an opportunity to think outside the box, to create narratives that resonate. Storytelling, after all, has the power to move and inspire, much like how that quirky pizza commercial moved a younger me.
And, in a twist of serendipity, I recently stumbled upon that very commercial while working on a new project. A beautiful full-circle moment, reminding me of where it all began. (minute 3:31)
